About the Event
Cultural salons began in the 1600 and 1700's and contributed to the "Age of Enlightenment" and then came back into vogue in the early 1900s in Paris. They played a significant role in shaping the discourse of modern art and literature. Among the most well-known were the salons hosted by Gertrude Stein, which showcased the work of renowned authors and artists like Hemmingway, Picasso, Matisse, Cézanne which served as a catalyst for the Modernist movement. This is extended beyond visual art to all the creative disciplines, including theater, literature, and poetry at cafes throughout the city.
NOA Gallery, partnering with The Groton Inn is reimagining the concept of cultural salons in this small town of 11,000, 30 miles outside of Boston, starting with an artist talk by two New England photographers, Ron Rosenstock and Michael Goodman.
