FINE ART GALLERY
NOA GALLERY was created to be a venue for local,
New England
artists to show and sell their work in a supported and encouraging way
and to provide the community with a place to gather, be exposed to
beauty and to shop locally.
The mediums include sculpture, paintings, fiber arts, glass, ceramics,
wood, photography, beaded jewelry, music, books.
Currently, we are collaborating with Mirrix Tapestry and Bead
Looms (now the only portable tapestry and bead loom manufactured in the USA) and are offering a wide array
of sizes of Mirrix looms and accompanying materials.
The logo of NOA GALLERY is the spiral as a symbol of the
intentions that inspire the human spirit’s longing for beauty and
expression. The spiral in
the art and natural world is a common occurrence.
It is the “Golden Mean” that Leonardo Da Vinci spoke of and used
in the creation and composition of his works and continues to be a
standard composition rule.
Another name for it is the “Fibonacci Sequence” in mathematics as there
is a repeating pattern that goes to infinity in the creating of the
spiral form. In nature, one
can find the spiral everywhere, on a grand level—the galaxies probably
being the largest known and on a smaller level, one can see this in
nautilus shells, fiddle-head ferns, and even down to the shape of DNA.
The spiral also represents the philosophy of the mission of NOA
GALLERY and how it relates to art, creative spirit and the community.
NOA GALLERY exists to support artists and also to expose people
of all ages to the beauty and benefits of fine art.
Often considered a “luxury” fine art, serves a much more
important role. Original art
affects the space in which it hangs.
Color, design, intention and what it invokes in the observer
creates tranquility, energy, healing, contemplation, among many other
responses.
NOA GALLERY also provides
the town of Groton with a lovely
vibrant business that proactively reaches out to the community in many
ways. The gallery is responsible
for the placement of art in public spaces.
With the support of the Groton Cultural Council, Ray Ciemney, a Groton artist, was commissioned to create 2
metal benches with a railroad theme to be placed on the rail trail in
town. NOA Gallery then
commissioned Fitchburg sculptor, Gage
Prentiss, to create a functional piece of art.
He sculpted a metal bicycle rack in the shape of a swamp tree
stump. The roots of the
stump provide the spaces to put bicycles into.
The gallery is also involved in an initiative with the Rail
Trails Committee, the Massachussetts Department of Recreation and The
Groton Cultural Council to organize students from the various private
and public high schools affiliated with Groton, join together in a
community service project.
Their task is to design and then paint murals depicting the town center
on the walls of the underpasses on the rail trail.
Having artwork in public spaces reflects the creative spirit that
exists in beautiful Groton. 5
years ago, NOA Gallery began the annual “ArtWalk”.
In a town of 10,000 people,
Groton
boasts 10 galleries in town center with more scattered throughout the
town. This is an
amazing concentration for a town of this size reflecting the amount of
artists that are living and working in the area.
The past year the gallery also produced the Artist of the Month
and Reception. Each month,
an artist is showcased with an artist reception and a two week show to
follow. Keeping to the
intent of NOA Gallery, the artist chooses a charity or cause to donate a
percentage of all their sales from the showing to.
NOA GALLERY matches that gift.
It is way for fine art to support worthy causes on a local and
global level.
